World Avalanche Danger ScalesHere are copies of the avalanche danger scales currently in use around the world. You can print out pdf color charts in either 8.5 by 11 format or 3 x 5 format for the US and Canada. The scale is close to universal, differences are minor for recreational purposes. One is the color scheme for EXTREME. The European scale also includes a column with the implications for roads and buildings since their warning systems are tied to decisions concerning these things. (The warnings are used by local avalanche commissioners in their decisions on safety measures.) Also, in Europe the use of the numbers 1-5 is common while in North America the terms are more commonly used. United StatesCanadaEurope
