Snow Stake
Also: Fixed Stake, Master Stake, 24-hr Stake, Interval Stake
A flat square board which lies on the snow with a measuring stick fastened vertically. Used to measure increments of new snow falling on an old snow surface or the underlying ground.
Some of the types of stakes used are:
- Fixed or master stake - measures total winter snowfall.
- Storm stake- measures total snowfall of one storm.
- 24-hour stake - measures snow fall over a 24 hour period.
- Interval stake - measures snowfall over short intervals of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 4 hours.
