Constitute quick response teams to tackle avalanches: Gurezi

Jammu, Feb 15: Member Legislative Assembly, Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi has expressed concern over the frequent snow avalanche accidents in different areas of Gurez tehsil and appealed the government to take immediate measures to minimize the human and property loss by constituting quick response teams.

In a statement issued here today, Gurezi suggested that the people living in snow avalanche prone areas of the Tehsil be shifted to the safer places on permanent basis to avoid any such loss in future.

He said the people of these areas live in constant fear and if shifted to other places they would be saved from such apprehensions.

The legislator also demanded early relief to those families whose houses were damaged in yesterday’s snow avalanche accident at Khandiya village in which three houses were buried.

Gurezi asked the district administration to send a team of official’s on-the-spot assessment of the losses and ensure early relief to the victims.
