A snowboarder died Saturday in an avalanche at the summit of Mount St. Helens. Standing near the mountain peak, the snowboarder triggered the avalanche on a cornice — an overhang of snow that can form on steep alpine slopes — and fell to his death.

This snowmobiling incident has also been added to the avalanche center archives. Few details are available or expected but some photos are available which will be added in the next day or two.
Rescuers finally found the body of a man buried in an avalanche in Bakuriani, the Emergency Management Service reports. The body of the deceased was removed from the snow mass by rescuers, and relevant legal procedures are underway. The emergency management service said about 200 firefighters, border police helicopters, rescue drones, canine service and representatives of the Georgian Defense Forces were involved in the search efforts.

For a handful of innovative researchers at Boise State, these are sounds worth listening to. The earth’s inaudible, infrasonic radiation can be an indicator to many phenomenon such as snow avalanches, and can be studied and predicted in new, deeper detail thanks to infrasound. With sensors developed and built by Boise State faculty and students, these rumblings can be recorded and used to mitigate hazards.

Amid intermittent rainfall in Kashmir, two small passenger vehicles carrying eight to 10 tourists were rescued after they under an avalanche in Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Friday. Officials said that the avalanche struck Hung area and two vehicles on the way to the Sonamarg resort were buried under the snow. Sonamarg station house officer (SHO) Zahoor Ahmad said that all the travellers were rescued safely.

A skier at Maine's Sugarloaf Mountain was buried in snow up to his neck after a 50-foot-wide avalanche last weekend. Nik Krueger told News Center Maine that he was celebrating his 27th birthday with a friend on Sunday and followed another skier down the mountain when suddenly a huge mound of snow let go, falling on the other skier.
"I made my way down there and just started digging snow as fast as I could to get him out of there." He said it took him about 10 minutes to dig out the other skier, who was almost completely buried, with only his head sticking out of the snow. Fortunately, the skier was uninjured.
