On May 12, 2024, amidst the stunning yet treacherous terrain of the Khibiny Mountains in Kirovsk, Russia, a snowbiker narrowly escaped a collision with an avalanche. In a video shared by @_burnoutt, the powder cloud of the avalanche enveloped the rider as they navigated the snowy slopes, only narrowly missing another snowbiker who emerged from the haze. Unfortunately, in the chaos of the moment, the other two riders weren't as fortunate, colliding with each other amidst the swirling snow. There are no details or any account, just a video.

May 20 - Three of the fatalities over the long weekend were the result of avalanches, while one ski tourer fell to his death. Two ski tourers were caught out and killed on Sunday by an avalanche on the Pigne d’Arolla mountain in canton Valais, at an altitude of almost 3,800 metres. The group of three highly experienced backcountry skiers was traveling on the Haute Route between Chamonix and Zermatt when the accident occurred. The accident occured at 7:30 a.m. A third member of the group alerted rescue services. The two victims were found dead at the foot of the mountain’s north face, having fallen around 800 metres. A ski tourer was also killed in an avalanche accident on the Piz Palü in canton Graubünden on Sunday. The 38-year-old was carried several hundred metres and buried. His touring partner was unharmed. Also on Sunday, a ski tourer fell to his death from the Breithorn in Valais. A total of 23 people have been killed in avalanches in the Swiss Alps since October 1, 2023.
