Bridal Veil Falls seems more dangerous since avalanche

PROVO, Utah — When the temperatures go up, the families flock to Bridal Veil in Provo Canyon. But last year's avalanche damage at the base of the popular waterfall is causing some concern. "There used to be a bridge. And it felt way safer, you could walk across it, there was way more distance I felt like from the water," said Samantha Hansen. Things haven't looked the same since the January 2023 avalanche that took out the bridge and engulfed the area with snow and sticks for half a year.

Avalanche Strikes Kedarnath Region - Climate Change?

An icefall avalanche occurred near the Chorabari glacier in the Kedarnath region of Uttarakhand, drawing attention due to its proximity to the 2013 disaster site. While witnesses captured the event, there have been no reports of damage or casualties. The massive avalanche originated approximately four kilometres above the Chorabari glacier in the Kedarnath region. Scientists attribute the avalanche to recent temperature fluctuations but consider it a normal occurrence in the Himalayas.

NZ: Homer Tunnel's New Avalanche Shelter Completed

The Homer Tunnel on the SH94 route to Milford Sound Piopiotahi is ready for winter, with the recent completion of a new avalanche shelter on the Te Anau side of the tunnel, says NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA). “NZTA has worked with its Crown infrastructure partners on a $29 million upgrade over the last three years, focused on improving safety and reliability for all Homer Tunnel users and work crews,” says James Caygill, Director Regional Relationships at NZTA.
