Avalanche control testing underway in Rogers Pass

Parks Canada has closed the east Rogers Pass area in British Columbia for avalanche control testing, saying it will cause Trans-Canada Highway closures too.The closure of the Rogers Pass is being done so the Canadian Armed Forces can test the howitzers used for avalanche control."There are 270 predetermined targets to reduce snow loads in the 135 avalanche paths that can affect the transportation corridor. Hitting those targets accurately is essential for effective avalanche control."

East Rogers opens early after avalanche control testing

The howitzer verification shoot went smoothly according to Parks Canada on Nov. 5. Parks Canada also reminds backcountry users that this program protects highway and railway traffic from natural avalanches and does not make slopes safe for skiers or snowboarders. As the shoot went well the East Rogers closure was lifted ahead of schedule, however, Parks Canada reminds those in the area that the Winter Permit System goes into effect on November 15.

Recall for Barryvox 2 and S2 Avalanche Transceivers

Mammut is issuing a voluntary recall for its Barryvox 2 and Barryvox S2 avalanche transceivers, introduced in the winter 2024/2025 season. Mammut has identified a potential issue with the power switch on some Barryvox 2 and S2 devices, which may result in unintentional switching from “Send” to “Search” mode or, in some cases, complete power-off. This assembly issue could pose a safety risk, and Mammut is asking consumers to return affected units for inspection and repair or replacement.
