Feb 20, 2012: Ortovox To Have Avalanche Backpacks For 2013
It seems that Ortovox will be the next to enter the flotation pack market. However, they are apparently not reinventing the wheel by developing yet another airbag/inflation/deployment system. It sounds as though they will be using the ABS system and designing it into their own packs. This should be good for everyone, all around.

We don't like to sit on inventory over the summer so every spring we try to sell off whatever is on the shelf. We always give members the first chance at larger discounts.
Mar 18, 2011: New: Flotation (Airbag) Packs
The latest addition to our avalanche store are airbag or flotation packs. We have actually been carrying these, at least in theory, since last summer. However, they never made it into the web store. (So we haven't actually sold many yet!)
These packs have airbags ("balloons") that inflate upon activation. This increases the combined volume of the skier/pack/airbag. The larger volume means that you end up on the surface, easy to find. Even if you are partially buried your partners will be able to go immediately to your location and free your airway.
