Auction - Proxy Bidding
Proxy Bidding
Starting with the 2003 (Sixth) auction we have proxy bidding. Here's
how this works:
When placing a bid there is a choice of making a regular bid or a proxy
bid. For a proxy bid the amount entered should be the highest amount you
are interested in bidding, at least for the time being. The system will
place a new bid for you at the current minimum bid amount. If somebody
else outbids you but bids less than your proxy amount then a bid will
be placed automatically for you. This allows you to remain the high bidder
up to a pre-determined amount without having to manually place bids repeatedly.
Proxy bids are made equal to the amount they are bid against, not higher.
That's just the way the script works! (And the proxy bidder actually did offer that amount first.)
If you are not interested in proxy bidding choose the checkbox for regular
bidding. If you do use proxy bidding note that there isn't any point in
it if you only enter the current minimum amount (although you can do that and it will work).
Important Note on Proxy Bidding and Dutch Auctions
Each year we have installed more add-ons to the auction and these have always been tested at the time, but the
compatibility of the different features is not always fully known.
Proxy bidding on dutch auctions ran into significant and tricky problems and has been disabled. So while you can use
Proxy bids on non-Dutch auctions you cannot do it on Dutch auctions.
